6 reasons to hit the road this winter

In winter most people want to stay at home rugged up with a team scarf watching the footy. Which is why it’s the perfect time to travel. While everyone’s holding out for a summer holiday, take advantage of the off-season and live large. Here are 7 of the best reasons to get out form under the doona and on the road this winter.

Price freeze

Everyone wants to travel in summer. Peak times mean peak prices. You’d be surprised at how much you can save on accommodation and flights in winter (ski resorts being the obvious exception).

Flexible accommodation

No, I’m not talking about a yoga retreat, but about being flexible with your plans. In winter hotels are less likely to be booked out. Want to stay an extra night and take advantage of great weather? Met someone you’d like to get to know better? No worries. With more beds available in more places it’s easier to play it by ear.

Be the king of the road.

There’s nothing worse than getting up at the crack of dawn, packing the car and hitting the road early to beat traffic, only to find out everyone else had the same idea. Less people on the road in winter means you’ll have an easier run. It’s the perfect time for a road trip.

Have a whale of a time.

Winter is whale season at its peak. Hang out with a humpback and have your mind blown by these majestic creatures. It’s a surefire cure for the winter blues.

Be a boss at the beach.

Alright, stay with me here, but the beach is actually a great place to hang out in winter. There’s nothing like walking down a totally deserted beach, looking back and seeing just two sets of footprints. It’s even kind of romantic. A secluded beach, a sunset, a couple of young lovers, you never know what could happen. Plus your chances of getting sunburnt are reduced immensely.

Travel like a local.

Holidaying in the peak season means you’re just hanging out with a bunch of other tourists. If you’re the kind of person that likes to really get to know a place and become immersed in the culture, off-season is the time to get amongst it.

So why not hit the road this winter? You never know what great adventure could be waiting out there for you. Plus you’ll save a few bucks. Happy travels.
