Redspot Car Rentals (RSR) has introduced the position of Truck Rental Manager (TRM) to help it develop a national truck and commercial vehicle business.

The role of the TRM will be broad, will share seniority in the RSR organisational structure with Regional Operations Managers (ROM) and will report directly to the Managing Director (MD) to whom the TRM will provide high level strategic advice regarding the truck and commercial vehicle business. Initially the TRM will have no direct reports.

The TRM will work collaboratively with other members of RSR management team including the General Manager Sales (GMS), ROM, Network Development Manager (NDM) and National Fleet Manager (NFM). The TRM will also provide advice and assist individual Franchisees as requested and required on matters relating to trucks and commercial vehicles.

In addition to providing advice and assistance to other members of the RSR management team the TRM will have direct responsibility for the sourcing of truck and commercial vehicle business across the RSR location network including negotiating direct and referred corporate business.

The TRM will have responsibility for developing and implementing a national marketing plan for the truck and commercial vehicle business (subject to budget and content approval by the GMS).

The TRM will be based at RSR Head Office in Sydney and will be expected to undertake intra and interstate travel as necessary to fulfil the requirements of the role.

The TRM will work with the NDM in matters relating to truck and commercial vehicle operations at Franchise locations and the identification and negotiation of truck Franchises.

The TRM will work with the NFM and individual Franchisees to identify vehicle types and specifications for inclusion in the Redspot truck and commercial vehicle fleet. The TRM will as requested and required assist the NFM and individual Franchisees source, negotiate purchase terms and dispose of vehicles for inclusion in the truck and commercial vehicle fleet.

The TRM will advise the GMS and individual Franchisees on truck and commercial fleet rental rates and rental terms and conditions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The TRM must develop a profitable truck and commercial vehicle location network across Australia to a development schedule timeframe. In addition the TRM must work with ROM and Branch Managers to ensure the truck fleet is operated profitably at each individual location where it is included in the fleet.

RSR has certain obligations to Enterprise Holdings as its Master Franchisee for Australia and New Zealand and the TRM is to ensure that it meets these obligations in all respects. The TRM is to immediately advise the MD of any likely or actual failure to meet these obligations.

The truck and commercial vehicle network must deliver the same high level of customer service standards as other areas of the RSR business and enhance RSR reputation in the market place.

PRIMARY DUTIES

The TRM will have duties across a range of disciplines and these will be reflecting in Key Performance Indicators (KPI) detailed later in this document and reviewed at least annually.

PLANNING

• Develop a high level costed Budget for the FY 2015/16 and 2016/17 including revenue projections, facility, fleet and wages cost

FLEET

  • Review competitor offerings, estimate return on investment and recommend initial RSR fleet offerings at corporate locations
  • Develop a branding strategy for the truck and commercial vehicle fleet under the guidance of the GMS
  • Purchase of necessary fleet to commence corporate truck and commercial vehicle business
  • Establish service and repair facilities/contractors for the truck and commercial vehicle fleet
  • Dispose of truck and commercial vehicles
  • The TRM must consult with the NFM for truck purchase, disposal, maintenance and repairs

SALES & MARKETING

  • Conduct a comprehensive review of the current truck and commercial vehicle market including vehicle offerings, corporate clients, marketing channels, pricing and rental terms and conditions
  • Develop under the guidance of the GMS a rate, accessory and rental conditions structure for trucks and commercial vehicles
  • Develop under the guidance of the GMS a sales and marketing plan including, website representation (RSR & others), external advertising, point of sales collateral, target corporate accounts
  • Develop in consultation with the GMS & NFM a personal networking strategy to establish contact with key individuals in the truck and commercial vehicle industry

NETWORK DEVELOPMENT

  • Review on a location by location basis existing corporate locations for suitability to operate the truck and commercial vehicle business
  • Introduce the truck and commercial vehicle fleet to suitable corporate locations in consultation with the respective ROM
  • Identify target territories for the establishment of integrated (with cars) and/or dedicated corporate and Franchise truck and commercial vehicle locations in consultation with the NDM
  • Develop with the NDM a marketing strategy to attract truck and commercial vehicle Franchisees
  • Consult with the ROM and individual Franchisees to introduce the truck and commercial vehicle fleet at suitable new locations

ADMINISTRATION

  • Establish and administer separate financial and operational reporting for truck and commercial vehicle operations.

SECONDARY DUTIES

  • Develop and co-ordinate reporting to EHI regarding truck and commercial vehicle activities
  • Provide advice to ROM and others on staff selection and training in truck and commercial vehicle operations
  • Attend meetings as requested and required by the MD
  • Assist as required in the development of a truck rental network for New Zealand
  • RSR may add to these duties at any time.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

  • Within 30 days of appointment complete a review of the truck and commercial vehicle market including competitor locations, vehicle and price offerings
  • Within 30 days of appointment complete a review of existing corporate locations for suitability to operate trucks and commercial vehicles and recommend suitable vehicle types
  • Within 45 days of appointment complete a draft Business Plan for truck and commercial vehicle operations
  • Within 45 days of appointment complete a pricing and terms of rental proposal for corporately operated vehicles for approval by the MD and GMS
  • Within 60 days of appointment complete a sales and marketing plan for approval by the GMS
  • Within 90 days of appointment make trucks available at one corporate location
  • Within 90 days of appointment implement the sales and marketing plan
  • Within 180 days of appointment make available trucks and commercial vehicles at four existing corporate locations
  • Within 270 days of appointment make available trucks and commercial vehicles at a further 2 corporate locations and 2 Franchise locations
  • Within 365 days of appointment have substantially met RSR obligations to Enterprise Holdings as its Master Franchisee for Australia
  • Within 365 days of appointment have substantially complied with the targets established in the Budget.
