About Surfers Paradise:
Originally a farm which was sold in the 1870s to Johann Meyer, who opened Main Beach Hotel as a tourist destination. The area was renamed Surfers Paradise in 1933 and started attracting holiday makers. The first high rise was built in 1959 which heralded the beginning of a building boom that lasted well over three decades and saw a sleepy little beach resort grow into an amazing tourist destination.
