Frequently Asked Questions

How close to full does rental car need to be?

Your vehicle is ready to pick up from Ceduna Airport with a full fuel tank, so you can get rolling ASAP. For returns, you have a couple of refuelling options available:

  1. Prepay for a full tank at a discounted rate at the start of your rental period. This will save you the hassle of filling it up later; just note that there’s no refund for unused fuel.
  2. Refuel your rental vehicle before returning it. You can refuel the car yourself right before returning it (fuel tank must show as full).

Only get charged for the fuel you use through our refuelling station on your return. This is available at a higher rate than the pre-paid fuel option.

Can I drive in South Australia with overseas license?

Yes, South Australia’s roads are open to international visitors with a valid overseas driver’s licence! To rent with Redspot, simply show your valid driver’s licence and passport to rev up for your journey.

If you plan to stay in Australia for longer than 3 months, that’s when you’ll need to transition to a local driver’s licence. This depends on the state or territory you’re travelling in, so check in with our friendly Ceduna Airport team by phone or email for local advice.

Note: Make sure to bring a physical driver’s licence to the kiosk. Certain digital licences or passports are not accepted as valid documents.* If your licence is not in English, we’ll need a translated version from your embassy or traffic authority in your home country.

For more information, see our complete guide to renting a vehicle with an overseas licence.

*Digital licences or passports are accepted from the USA, Singapore, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

What is the oldest age to rent a car?

None! At Redspot, we say that age is just a number. That’s why we welcome anyone over 21 years old to rent with us and rev up to make some serious business moves.

Can P Platers hire cars?

You sure can! We’re one of the few Aussie companies that give the green light for local P-platers over 21 to rent a car, including mine-spec and commercial vehicles.

Keeping you safe is our top priority, so we have a few safety rules that are designed to make sure you get from Point A to Point B without a hitch.

If you are a P-plater, you must:

  • Hold a Provisional P2 licence (green Ps).
  • Hold a driver’s licence that is valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection.

When you rent a car, remember to factor in the daily surcharge. This surcharge applies to all drivers holding an Australian provisional driver’s licence. Keep in mind that P-platers can also reduce damage cover to a maximum of $330.

Aged between 21 and 25? You have access to our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Provisional drivers over the age of 25 can enjoy renting any vehicle available from our entire fleet.

Check out our Provisional Drivers guide for all the details to fuel your work plans.

How does rental car insurance work in Australia?

In Australia, rental car excess may be covered with travel insurance, depending on your chosen coverage type. However, if an accident does occur, you are still liable for damage liability with your car rental company. Once charged, you can claim that ‘excess charge’ back to your travel insurer for reimbursement.

With Redspot, all our vehicles automatically come with Standard Cover for peace of mind and seamless, easy booking! No need for complex third-party claims or processing periods, just swift support for a smooth experience.

How can I avoid rental car cancellation fees?

Booking directly with Redspot? You don’t have to worry about cancellation fees, because we don’t charge any. We know that life happens when you least expect it and how important flexibility is on the road.

Please keep in mind that this may change if your booking is prepaid. Additionally, if you’ve booked with a third-party agency (broker, GPS, OTA), then you will need to seek a refund from them directly, as Redpot cannot refund third-party rentals.

Are your vehicles well maintained?

They sure are! Here at Redspot, we take loving care of our fleet, whether you’re on the road for a few days or a few months. We thoroughly inspect and clean all our vehicles after they are returned to ensure tip-top condition. On average, our vehicles are 6 months old, so you always have a fresh ride.

For long-term car hire, our swapping out process will keep your mine-spec rental spot on! Every month, our expert team will get in touch via phone to check in on any maintenance issues and the kilometre (km) reading.

Once km reaches a certain amount, your Redspot vehicle will be serviced or swapped out for a fresher ride, depending on your needs. We keep on top of the maintenance so you can tackle the mine site conditions stress-free. Alternatively, contact our friendly team at 1300 668 810 to arrange swap-outs or request more information.

Most Redspot cars have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, so you can enjoy hands-free navigation. This helps you stay safe while driving-  we don’t recommend you use your mobile phone for navigation without some sort of hands-free system.

Please bring along a USB or USB-C connector to use the location services we have available. We don’t provide mobile connectors, so it’s best to come prepared to make full use of these services.

What happens if the car rental place is closed at the airport?

If our Redspot car rental kiosk is closed at Ceduna Airport, never fear! You have a couple of after-hours pick-up options to get you rolling, even if your flight gets delayed. Choose to:

  1. Provide your flight number to us during the booking process or call our Ceduna Airport team on (08) 7634 4224 (branch direct). We will track your flight until it arrives, well past operating hours. We will also wait for you up to 60 minutes after your flight has officially landed.

  2. Fly without providing a flight number with your booking. We will wait up to 60 minutes past your booked arrival time.
  3. If you haven’t provided a flight number and your flight arrives past the booked arrival time, please make alternative travel arrangements. Your rental vehicle will be available for collection the next business day.

For after-hours drop-off, simply park your rental vehicle at the Ceduna Airport car park in the designated Redspot bay. Drop your keys in the drop box located in the Redspot kiosk inside the terminal, and you’re all set to go.
