What to know before collecting your car
Before you hit the road, take a moment to review the key information below. It covers important details about payment, security bonds, driver requirements, damage liability, tolls, fuel policies and more to help make your vehicle collection quick and hassle-free.
CC Security Pre-Authorisation
At vehicle collection, we place a pre-authorisation (not a charge) on your card as a security bond.
- Standard bond: $100
- Must be on a credit/debit card in the hirer’s name
- Must be a physical credit/debit card (not digital)
- Funds must be available in addition to your rental charges
This allows us to process additional amounts if required (e.g. damage liability, fuel, tolls, late return).
Pre-Check In
Save time at the counter by completing your details before you arrive.
With Pre-Check-In, you can securely provide:
- Driver licence details
- Payment card information
- Flight details (if applicable)
- Contact information
Benefits include:
- Faster vehicle collection
- Less paperwork at the counter
- Reduced waiting times
- A smoother start to your journey
Local Renter Policy (Within 100km of Branch)
First-time local residents renting within 100km of the pickup location must:
- Provide a $1,000 credit card pre-authorisation (not visa/mc debit card)
- Present valid driver’s licence (photo ID)
- Provide proof of address (utility bill within 3 months, matching licence)

Age & Licence Requirements
Drivers must:
- Be 21 years or older
- Hold a valid licence for the vehicle type
Not permitted:
- Learner drivers
- Drivers with less than 12 months licensed experience
Drivers aged 21–24 and provisional licence holders:
- Provisional drivers must have held an Australian licence for at least 12 months
- Restricted to economy, compact or intermediate vehicles
- Additional fees apply
Your Damage Liability (LDL)
Your Loss or Damage Liability (LDL) is the amount you are be responsible for if the vehicle is damaged — even if you are not at fault.
LDL may include:
- Vehicle damage
- Third-party damage
- Accident administration fee
- Loss of use
- Towing and related costs
Standard liability ranges from $5,200 to $6,200, depending on vehicle type. This can be reduced at an optional daily fee. More info.
Airport Locations – Inside the Terminal
Unlike many rental companies that require a shuttle bus to an off-site depot, Redspot operates rental desks inside the airport terminal at all major airport locations.
Benefits include:
- Collect your vehicle sooner after landing
- No shuttle bus transfers (Sydney excluded)
- Easier vehicle collection and return process
- Convenient access directly from the terminal
Simply follow the rental car signs inside the airport and visit the Redspot counter to get on the road faster.
Mileage
Most rentals include unlimited kilometres. Mileage limits may apply at certain remote locations or for specific vehicle categories. Any limits will be shown in your booking confirmation and at time of booking.
Additional Drivers
Additional drivers can be added at collection for a fee (or included with our Executive Package).
All drivers must meet age and licence requirements. More info.
Toll Roads
Redspot vehicles are registered for automatic number plate tolling.
If you use a toll road:
- The toll charge
- Plus an administration fee
Will be charged to your nominated payment method. If you purchase the Toll Pass Waiver, you will not pay toll charges or admin fees. Please note: You cannot pay tolls directly with toll road operators after using them in a rental vehicle.

Fuel & EV Charging
Fuel Vehicles (Full to Full):
Return the vehicle with a full tank. Refuelling charges apply if not full.
Electric Vehicles:
Return fully charged. Any charging during your rental will be charged to your nominated card.
Accepted Payment Methods
Accepted:
- Visa, Mastercard, Amex credit cards
- Visa & Mastercard debit cards
- All cards must be in the hirer’s name
Not accepted:
- Savings debit cards
- Cash
Card processing fees may apply and are determined by your card provider. The fee is displayed at time of payment.
