Frequently Asked Questions

Who can hire a mine spec vehicle?

Redspot ‘mine-spec’ or ‘safety-spec’ vehicles are available for hire to businesses that require specialised transport for Aussie worksites with safety compliance rules (think mining sites, large construction project sites, etc.). Examples include mining companies, construction companies, government agencies and more.

How much does it cost to hire a mine spec ute?

Depends on your plans! Costs can vary because of vehicle type, booking duration, chosen damage excess cover, seasonal factors and more. However, average daily hire rates typically range from around $90 to $300 for smaller vehicles like 4WD utes. For larger Port Hedland Airport commercial rental vehicles, the average cost can range from $120 to $450.

Is fuel included in car hire?

Yes, fuel is included when you hire a car from Redspot. However, it does not increase your hiring costs. Your car’s tank will already be full, so you can hit the ground driving.

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Port Hedland?

For most rental car companies in Australia, the minimum rental age is 25. However, with Redspot, we don’t think age should keep you from getting the job done! If you’re a driver over 21 years old, you are welcome to rent with us, including mine-spec and commercial vehicles.

See our Young Drivers guide for all the information you need to hit the road. (Note: Vehicle size restrictions for Young Drivers do not apply for mine-spec and commercial vehicles. Speak with your employer to confirm details.)

What is the oldest age to drive a rental car?

We don’t have an oldest age! At Redspot, age is just a number; that’s why we welcome anyone over 21 years old to rent with us. Just pick up your vehicle and get rolling on your workday!

Can I still register an additional driver if I have already picked up my vehicle?

Yes, absolutely! Any additional drivers will just need to present a valid driver’s licence to our Port Hedland staff. Our team will then validate and scan the ID to our secure vault. Unfortunately, we cannot accept IDs that are emailed to us, so please be sure to bring a physical ID to keep your workday rolling.

What vehicles do you offer on a C-class driver's licence?

Good news – all Redspot vehicles are available to drivers with a C-class driver’s licence, including commercial and mine spec. Check out our full vehicle fleet to find your ride.

Can I reduce the Damage Liability amount?

Yes, you sure can. Book with our All-Inclusive Package to get up to $1500 standard damage liability for commercial and mine spec vehicles. If you book with our Standard Package, you can reduce up to $6200 standard damage liability for commercial and mine spec.

Do rental cars have GPS navigation?

Unfortunately, our rental cars do not come with GPS or satellite navigation systems. Don’t worry; we’ve still got you covered for navigational help!

Most Redspot cars have Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, so you can enjoy hands-free navigation. This helps you stay safe while driving. We don’t recommend you use your mobile phone for navigation without some sort of hands-free system.

Please bring along a USB or USB-C connector to use the location services we have available. We don’t provide mobile connectors, so it’s best to come prepared to make full use of these services.

If I purchase a full tank of fuel, do I get a refund for any fuel remaining in the tank on return?

No, unfortunately, refunds are unavailable for any fuel left in your mine-spec hire car. For other refuel options, you can choose to only get charged for the fuel you’ve used. Please note that this comes at a higher rate than prepayment. You can also refuel your rental vehicle before you return it to avoid any extra charges. (We’ll also be really grateful!)

Oh no! I just filled up my unleaded car with diesel, what do I do?

If you have filled your rental car with the wrong fuel, don’t panic. Instead, follow these simple steps:

  • Safely stop your vehicle ASAP and turn off the engine
  • Call Redspot’s 24/7 roadside assistance for a tow to the nearest workshop
  • Wait for assistance and don’t start the engine again

Diesel petrol in an unleaded car can cause serious engine damage, so it’s best to get professional assistance as soon as you can.

Hot tip: Always double-check the fuel type displayed in the fuel tank opening of your car rental! This is located either on the fuel cap OR lid flap. Still unsure? Your hire car fuel type is also listed on the vehicle’s key tag.
