More about Beverley

With a population of just over 1.23 million, Adelaide is the fifth-largest city in Australia. It is the capital city of South Australia and is located north of the spectacular Fleurieu Peninsula. The city of Adelaide rises from tree-covered plains and is hedged by the Gulf St Vincent and the low-lying Mount Lofty Ranges. It stretches 20 km from the coast to the foothills and was named Australia’s most liveable city in 2011 and 2012.

The city was founded in 1836 and was named in honour of Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen, queen consort to King William IV. While Adelaide was the planned capital for a freely settled British province in Australia, the Kaurna people are still recognised as the traditional owners of the land.

Adelaide is designed with a grid layout, intersected by wide boulevards and large public squares. As South Australia’s commercial and government centre, the city centre is the site of many governmental and financial institutions.

Today, Adelaide is known for its food, wine and culture. Visitors can enjoy many festivals and sporting events, as well as, drive along expansive beachfronts and sweeping vineyards. The eclectic mix of history and culture makes Adelaide the perfect holiday destination for tourists and locals alike.
