At Redspot Car Rentals, we’ve seen a lot of strange things on the road — but some dashcam footage really pushes the limits of explanation. Around the world, drivers have shared videos of so-called “Ghost Cars” — mysterious vehicles that appear out of nowhere, seemingly breaking the laws of physics (and road safety).
While we can’t guarantee an answer, we do know one thing: if something this bizarre ever happened in real life, you’d be very glad to have rental insurance sorted!
Here are four of the most famous ghost car clips:
Russian Ghost Car
This clip has been played and replayed by drivers everywhere. A car materialises at an intersection as if it was invisible just moments before. Other drivers seem to swerve without making contact — but where did it come from? Even seasoned road trippers like us can’t figure it out.
NYPD Ghost Car
In New York, a dashcam captured a car appearing to drive through a fence before vanishing. While the TV-style narration might be a bit cheesy, the footage has stumped thousands. Proof of the supernatural… or just clever editing?
Car Crash out of nowhere
Imagine you’re driving along when suddenly — bang — a car collides with your bonnet, even though it seemed to appear from thin air. That’s exactly what happens here. We don’t know what’s more shocking: the crash itself, or trying to explain that one to your insurer.
Hatchback Surprise
In this final clip, a driver checks for traffic before making a U-turn. Everything looks clear — until dashcam footage reveals a hatchback suddenly appearing from nowhere. Ghostly glitch, optical illusion, or something stranger?
What Do You Think?
At Redspot Car Rentals, we take driving safety seriously — but we love a good mystery too. These “ghost cars” are probably tricks of perspective, poor lighting, or clever camera angles… but they still make you wonder.
Have you ever seen something on the road you couldn’t explain? Share your story in the comments — and don’t worry, if you’re driving with Redspot, our insurance options have you covered (ghosts or not).
