Yes, you can hire a moving van for one-way trips! We offer flexible one-way van hire, so you don’t have to worry about returning the vehicle to the original location. It’s a convenient option for local moves or saving on removalist costs, and each rental includes a daily 100 km allowance with a small p/km fee if you go further (varies by vehicle).
Can you cross borders in a hire van?
Yes, you can drive a hire van across state borders in Australia with Redspot including:
Interstate one-way rentals:
- You can book one-way car hire between our East Coast branches (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS), subject to vehicle availability.
Restricted state one-way rentals:
- Due to these branches’ remote locations (NT, SA, WA), one-way car hire is only available between Redspot locations within the state/territory it is rented from.
For one-way rentals, a one-way fee (also known as drop or relocation fees) may apply, based on distance and return logistics. All fees are included in your online quote, so you know exactly what’s involved for your budget from Day 1.

Can someone else return my one-way truck hire or van hire?
We understand plans change. Anyone listed on the rental car agreement as an additional driver can return your one-way car rental, including vans and moving truck hire. Too easy!
If you opted in for our all-inclusive package then you can add free additional drivers. If you opted for our standard package, an additional driver will incur a fee of $11/day.
What is the oldest age to drive a rental moving van?
None! At Redspot, we say that age is just a number. Whether you’re a retiree, hold a seniors card, or you’re simply young at heart, we welcome anyone over 21 to rent with us and move through new life chapters across Australia. All you need is a valid driver’s licence and credit card and you’re good to grab the keys.
For overseas senior drivers, we will need a full valid driver’s licence with photo identification and passport. Licences must be in English or have an official translated copy and some countries may require an international driver’s permit.
