Yes, you can take a hire car on a ferry. For Port Augusta, this means you can easily access places like Kangaroo Island, Wallaroo and Port Lincoln. 

Please note that there are a few special considerations that apply:

• The elected damage liability does not apply while on the ferry, i.e. in the event of the ferry sinking or the hire car being damaged while on the ferry, the customer is up for car replacement/repair costs.
• There must be a gazetted road (a sealed or unsealed road regularly maintained by the Australian government) on the other end of the ferry.

Yes, mine spec rental cars typically have a km limit per day. The exact km amount depends on location. For example, you can get up to 140 km free p/day ($0.30 per excess kilometre + GST) for Redspot mine spec rentals in Regional WA, SA and NT. For QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and TAS, get up to 130 km free p/day ($0.30 per excess kilometre + GST). Things can change, so worth checking the inclusion value at time of booking.

To hire a car in Australia (including our Port Augusta branch), you will need:

• A valid credit card or debit card* or purchase order/prepaid voucher**.
• A valid driver’s licence and the licence of any other drivers using the car. Licence not in English? You will also need an official translation, as provided by your embassy or home nation’s traffic authority. 
• Does your licence show your current address? If not, you will need to provide documented proof of address, such as a utility bill. 
• If you are not an Australian citizen, you must also provide your passport. 

*Debit cards: Must have the customer’s name displayed, and the ability to make online payments e.g. Visa or Mastercard debit cards.

**Purchase order or prepaid vouchers: Customers must also supply a valid credit card or Visa/Mastercard debit card for any incidental expenses (extensions, fuel charges, etc.).

Depends! While you will be immediately paying less for a short term hire, your daily rates may also be reduced for long term rental. Yes, you generally need to have a full driver’s licence and be over 25 years old to hire a car in Australia. However, at Redspot, you can hire with us if you are over 21 and you have a:

• Provisional P2 licence (green Ps).
• Driver’s licence that is valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection.

This includes commercial and mine-spec hire cars. If you have a provisional licence, you will need to factor in a daily surcharge. This surcharge applies to all drivers holding an Australian provisional driver’s licence. Keep in mind that P-platers can also reduce damage cover to a maximum of $330. 

Aged between 21 and 25? You have access to our range of small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks. Provisional drivers over the age of 25 can enjoy renting any vehicle available from our entire fleet.

Depends on the type of rental you’re after! For commercial rentals, a fully equipped and mine specced heavy duty wagon can get you to and from your worksite with increased protection in rough terrains. 

For road trips and explorers, a premium full size SUV has advanced safety features including autonomous emergency braking, lane departure alerts and advanced traction control systems for incredible safety and comfort for your whole crew.

On average, it costs about $560 per year* to service one of Australia’s 10 best-selling utes, including the Ford Range, Toyota HiLux and Toyota LandCruiser. With Redspot’s mine-spec car hire, vehicle servicing is already included in the booking fee with our handy swapping-out process. 

Every month, our expert team will get in touch via phone to check in on any maintenance issues and the kilometre (km) reading. Once km reaches a certain amount, your Redspot vehicle will be serviced or swapped out for a fresher ride, depending on your needs. We keep on top of the maintenance, so you can tackle the mine site conditions stress-free.

Depends on your personal preferences! At Redspot, all our vehicles come with Standard Cover insurance for your safety. If you want a little more protection, check out our Collision Damage Waiver or Super Collision Damage Waiver options for greater peace of mind.

Redspot vehicles typically have their own tags equipped. You may bring your own tag, but if you do, you may accidentally be charged twice for toll roads.

With Redspot’s Premium Roadside Assistance (PRA) OR Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW), changing a punctured tyre will be included in your package at no extra cost. Your rental car also comes with a tool kit to change the tyre yourself if you want to get up and running ASAP. 

PRA covers the cost of call-out requests with Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) insurance or similar. Alternatively, one of our friendly Redspot staff members will come to assist you. This is also covered by PRA. 

If you are stuck in a particularly remote location, Redspot also offers a $150 reimbursement credit. This helps cover any local accommodation and transport you might need during a worst-case scenario. 

Note: If your vehicle breaks down due to no fault of your own (engine faults, etc.), you are not liable for any call-out fees, etc. This applies even if you did not take Premium Roadside Assistance.

We suggest contacting your friend to ask that they take care of the fine. If you can, keep any evidence that you were not driving when the speeding occurred. 

No matter who was driving at the time, we will need to send the fine to the address given to us at pick-up. In this case, please note there is an additional $55 administrative fee charged when this happens. To avoid the extra hassle and fees, please adhere to local road rules and keep your wallet and friendships intact!
