Why rent a Ute in Sydney?
A ute hire from Sydney is sturdy enough to carry up to 1,240kg of cargo, but is more versatile, fuel-efficient and easier to drive and park on the Sydney city roads than a larger truck. Whether you need an extra ute for your tradie business or you’re helping a mate move house, a ute may be the vehicle you need to work smarter and haul faster.
Moving House
Flex your guns and move house with more convenience using a self-drive ute hire. A simple 24-hour minimum hire means you control the schedule, not the movers. With a dual or single cab ute, ample cargo space and additional moving accessories, you can turn your heavy lifting into light work.
Home Renovation
Whether it’s a DIY trip to Bunnings or a vintage sideboard pickup from the Salvos, a Sydney ute hire can help you secure your load and tackle the city traffic in no time. Take your home renno dream from a Pinterest wishlist to a job done checklist.
Tradie Ute rental
Our tradie car rentals could be the extra set of wheels you need without committing to a lock-in lease or sale. With a flexible Redspot Connect business account, you can manage your contracts, easily book a ute and check out of a Sydney branch within 15 seconds.
Ute hire for Commercial Businesses
Whether you run a delivery business or a landscaping consultancy, a ute hire could be a convenient alternative to buying an extra set of wheels. With single or dual cab options, 24/7 roadside assistance and insurance packages, a flexible business rental account is simple and stress-free.
Mine Spec Ute Hire Sydney
If you’re heading out to a mine site in rural New South Wales, a safe and secure mine spec ute could keep you compliant on site. Our utility vehicles are geared for the rugged terrain with Rollover protection (ROPS), heavy-duty suspensions and high visibility markings. With up to 1,050kg carrying capacity and a tray size of 1.8m x 1.8m, a mine spec ute could help you carry any bulky items from Sydney to the site.

What to know before you hire a Ute in Sydney
Driving a ute for the first time can feel daunting, especially if you’re used to zipping around in a compact car. Don’t stress, you can drive a ute with a standard driver’s licence and only need to make a few safe adjustments:

Give yourself extra space
A ute is generally longer than any standard car, so give yourself extra space when turning corners, switching lanes or parking.

Be aware of blind spots
Adjust your mirrors before setting off and always do an extra check before changing lanes or merging.

Get familiar
A ute may feel really high and bulky compared to other vehicles, and the dashboard may be set out differently. Spend a little time getting comfortable before releasing that handbrake.

Bring your driver’s licence
Bring a valid driver’s licence and a credit card to book your next ute hire. All rental vehicles require a credit card at pick-up for pre-authorisation. Planning on additional drivers? Bring their valid driver’s licences too, so you can share ute-ing duties without any problems.

Inspect the ute
During vehicle pickup, make sure to thoroughly inspect your rental ute and let our friendly team know about any issues. This helps you avoid potential charges later, and gets you on the road with a top-notch vehicle and a confident mind.

Plan your route
It’s crucial to remember that utes are larger than regular cars and may not fit in all spaces, especially in Sydney. Be sure to plan your route ahead of time, check for tunnel restrictions, and avoid tight spots or low clearances.

Toll Policy
At Redspot, we use our own toll tag. If you choose to bring your own device, you may risk being charged twice. When you collect your vehicle, you can choose to pre-pay your toll charges by purchasing a toll waiver.

Do I need a specific driver’s licence to hire a ute?
No, you can hire any ute with a full, valid driver’s licence without any issues. To hire a ute in Sydney, you will need:
- A valid credit card or debit card* or purchase order/prepaid voucher**.
- A valid driver’s licence and the licence of any other drivers using the car. Licence not in English? Please present an official translation from your embassy or your home nation’s traffic authority.
- If your licence does not show your current address, please provide documented proof of address, such as a utility bill.
- If you are not an Australian citizen, you must provide your passport.

You must be 25 years and over to hire a ute in Sydney. Unfortunately, young drivers between 21 and 25 can only hire small and standard car rentals.
Can you hire a ute to go one way?
Yes, you can hire a one-way ute rental from many of our branches! Not all branches keep utes on their fleet, so we only offer one-way hires for certain locations. You can simply pick up in Sydney and drop off in Cairns, Brisbane, Townsville and more.
Please keep in mind that one-way rentals usually come with a drop fee (aka one-way fees) to cover the cost of moving the vehicles back to their original branch. This fee amount will be shown to you during the online booking process, so you know what you are paying for from day 1 and can easily compare prices.
Interstate one-way rentals:
- You can book one-way ute hire between our East Coast branches (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS), subject to vehicle availability.
Restricted state one-way rentals:
- Due to the remoteness of certain branches (NT, SA, WA), one-way hire is only available between Redspot branches within the state/territory from which it is rented.
For more info, contact our friendly team on 1300 668 810 or use our online form to discuss your ute hire options. We’d love to help you navigate your journey!
