TV and Film Car Hire FAQs
Are Redspot TV and Film cars chauffeur-driven?
No, Redspot TV and Film cars are yours to control. All you need to do is sign up for your Business Club package, allocate your drivers, and have them pick up your vehicles with a show-and-go card. Then you’re on the road within 15 seconds!
Do you hire vehicles for film, TV, commercials, and photo shoots?
Yes. Redspot offers rented vehicles for the film, TV, and advertising industry, as well as rentals for photo shoots.
Can we reduce the excess to zero for TV and Film Cars?
Yes. When you choose to rent using the Executive Package, you receive additional insurance support and can reduce the excess to zero depending on the TV and film car selected.
Can we use Redspot cars in stunt scenes?
Redspot vehicles may be used for general film and television production where the vehicle is driven normally and in accordance with our rental terms.
Vehicles cannot be used for stunt driving, deliberate impacts, racing, dangerous manoeuvres or activities likely to cause damage under a standard rental agreement. Any specialist film or stunt use requires prior written approval from Redspot and may require a separate commercial agreement and insurance arrangements.
Do we get free additional drivers for a business package?
Yes, you get free additional drivers when you choose Redspot’s business package, as long as they are employed by your production company.
Do we need additional liability insurance to film in a Redspot car?
For standard filming where the vehicle is used normally and in accordance with Redspot’s rental terms, additional liability insurance is generally not required by Redspot.
For commercial productions, stunt work, specialist filming or higher-risk activities, additional production or liability insurance may be required. Please contact Redspot in advance to discuss your filming requirements.
How much notice do you need to book a car?
Redspot’s booking portal is completely live and up-to-date, and depending on the availability of your required vehicles, you could book a car and pick it up within an hour.
Of course, though, it’s always a good idea to plan ahead to ensure you get the vehicles you need. Luckily, Redspot has over 35 years of experience in vehicle rentals with locations across Australia. With our flexible packages, you’re in good hands.
Can vehicles be delivered to the set?
Yes, vehicle delivery to a film or production set may be available by prior arrangement, depending on the location, vehicle requirements and branch availability.
Please contact Redspot in advance to discuss delivery options, associated fees and collection arrangements.
Can you accommodate changes during the shoot?
Yes. When you rent with Redspot, we cater to your schedule, and if we have the availability, you can change the car rental term as needed. We don’t charge any amendment fees; you only pay for any additional days, vehicles or one-way rental changes.
What are the driver’s licence and driver’s age requirements?
Redspot requires all drivers to have a full, valid driver’s license with photo identification to drive our cars. There are subsequent conditions for the following driver groups:
- Corporate Drivers: All of our business rentals are bespoke and easy to use. Companies can add all employees as drivers to the booking through their online portal and upload the driver’s licence details.
- Overseas Drivers: We will need to see a passport and a driver’s licence at pick-up. The licence must be in English or accompanied by an officially translated document from your embassy or road traffic authority in your home country. Some countries may require an international driver’s permit.
- P-Plate Drivers: We’re one of the few Australian car rental companies to offer hire cars for provisional drivers. You must hold a Provisional P2 driver’s licence (green Ps), and your driver’s licence must be valid for a minimum of 12 months from the date of rental collection. A provisional driver fee may be added to your quote.
- Young Drivers: We’re also one of the few car rental companies to have a minimum driver age of 21! We just need to see a full, valid driver’s license with photo identification. Note that drivers under 25 will pay a daily surcharge on their car rental fee. Car hire is limited to small to medium-sized sedans and hatchbacks.
- Senior Drivers: There is no maximum age to hit the road and no senior driver fee. We just need to see a full, valid driver’s license with photo identification.
