Meet our Hybrid Fleet.
<insert fleet widget>
Our hybrids are fuel-saving legends, so you can go further on fewer litres. That means more sights, fewer servo stops, and a greener footprint while you’re at it. How’s that for a budget-friendly, feel-good drive?
With over 35 years on Australian roads as a family-owned car rental business, we know a good trip starts with the right wheels. So, hop into a hybrid from one of our 50+ locations and cruise into fuel savings.
Mild Hybrids (No Plug in!)
A mild hybrid car (MHEV) is self-charging, meaning there’s no need to put the brakes on your plans to hunt for an EV charging station. Its electric battery gets a boost every time you slow down, thanks to regenerative braking. Talk about stopping power!
While you’re cruising, the battery lends the engine a little extra vroom, helping you coast into better fuel savings. Just top up your hybrid car rental with petrol as usual and steer into a fuel-efficient road trip.
Plug-In Hybrid
A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) puts the power in your hands – literally! Just plug in to charge the electric battery for zero-emission short trips, then switch gears and let the petrol engine kick in for longer drives. It’s the best of both worlds; electric when you want it, petrol when you need it.
Plug-in hybrids typically juice up in just a few hours, so you don’t have to stress about an overnight marathon charging session. Hit the road in a plug-in hybrid and cut down on fuel stops.
Fuel Savings are just part of the ride with a Hybrid rental.
A hybrid car usually uses less fuel to cover the same distance as a regular petrol car. To measure this, manufacturers test each model and give it a fuel efficiency rating (basically, how many litres of petrol it takes to drive 100km).
For example, the Toyota Camry Hybrid uses just 3.9L per 100km, while the petrol version uses around 6L. So, if you were driving the 100km stretch of the Great Ocean Road, the hybrid would only need 3.9 litres of fuel, compared to 6 litres in the petrol model. It’s a superior fuel economy and a smooth way to accelerate your fuel savings.
And hey, what you save on fuel could go on something a little more exciting. Like an extra round of flat whites, a beachside schooner, or maybe even a cheeky koala souvenir!
Keep in mind that these ratings are based on controlled testing conditions. Real-world driving isn’t always a straight road, and things like traffic, terrain, and how heavy your foot is on the pedal can all affect fuel use. So, consider these numbers your roadmap, not the final destination.

Hybrid Red Hot Driving Tips.
Hybrid technology offers the best of both worlds – petrol-stop convenience with a side of EV fuel savings and sustrainability. The best part? Driving a hybrid is not too different from driving a standard card.
Drive smarter with our Hybrid tips:

Plan your route for a stress-free drive
In high-traffic areas, braking in a mild hybrid will help recharge the electric battery. Longer, uninterrupted drives give the electric motor a chance to take over and boost your fuel efficiency.

Keep an eye on fuel levels:
While your petrol goes further in a mild hybrid, don’t let your tank run out of juice! For plug-in hybrid engines, you’ll have separate gauges for both petrol and electric charge. When the electric battery drains, the petrol engine takes over. So keep an eye on both levels to fuel those savings and avoid getting caught on empty.

Brake smooth and steady
Mild hybrids thrive on smooth driving. Avoid sudden stops or heavy braking as your hybrid will regenerate energy and recharge the battery as you slow down. So, take it easy on those long drives and keep things smooth on the open road.

Switch hybrid modes
Before hitting the road, get familiar with your hybrid’s driving modes, such as Eco Mode, EV Mode, and Sport Mode. Use Eco Mode for fuel-efficient driving, EV Mode for short trips where you can run purely on electricity, and Sport Mode when you want quicker acceleration.

Track your fuel savings
Hybrid rental cars are all about fuel savings, so track how much you save compared to a regular petrol car. It’ll feel great to know you’re making an eco-friendly vehicle choice without emptying your wallet!

Hybrid Rental FAQs
Is a hybrid rental car worth it?
Hybrid cars generally use a lot less petrol than standard rentals, which means more savings at the pump. With a mild hybrid (MHEV), there’s no need to plug in. Just fuel up like normal and enjoy the extra kilometres. If you’re driving a plug-in hybrid (PHEV), you can charge it up for a low cost, drive on electric power, and let the petrol engine kick in when the battery runs low.
Hybrid car rentals are a smart choice for longer one-way road trips, long-term hires, or any journey where you’d rather spend less on petrol and more on the adventure.
What is a full-size hybrid car?
It’s the big comfy ride that gives you all the space you need for the family, your bags, and that last-minute Bunnings haul, without guzzling petrol. Full-size hybrids like the Toyota Camry Hybrid give you the smooth drive of a big sedan, with the bonus of fuel savings thanks to that sneaky electric motor doing its part.
Perfect for road trips up the coast, airport runs, or just cruising around town like a legend without emptying your tank (or your wallet).
How does a mild hybrid car work?
Think of it like your regular petrol car, but with a clever little electric boost riding shotgun. A mild hybrid doesn’t drive on electric power alone, but it gives the petrol engine a helping hand. It recharges itself as you brake, so there’s no need to plug it in. It’s all smooth sailing and fuel-saving, without you having to lift a finger. Too easy!
How does a plug-in hybrid work?
It’s the best of both worlds – part electric, part petrol. You plug it in to charge the battery (just like topping up your phone), and it’ll run on electric power for short trips, which is perfect for city runs or the morning coffee dash. Once the battery’s low, the petrol engine kicks in and keeps you going without skipping a beat. It’s smooth, smart, and doesn’t mind doing the heavy lifting when you forget to charge.
Is driving a hybrid car different from a regular car?
Not really, but it does come with a few clever perks. You still steer, accelerate, and brake the same way, but hybrids are smoother and quieter (you might even wonder if it’s on!). The biggest difference? Behind the scenes, the electric motor and petrol engine work together to save you fuel. No special skills required, just hop in and go!
