About Cairns:

Cairns is a regional city in Far North Queensland. Founded in 1876, the city was named after the then-current Governor of Queensland; William Wellington Cairns. The city is located about 1,700 km from Brisbane, and about 2,700 km from Sydney.

For years, Cairns has served as the agricultural hub of Far-North Queensland; exporting sugar cane, gold and other minerals and agricultural products from surrounding areas. Today, its tropical climate and spectacular natural scenery make it a popular travel destination for foreign tourists. It also serves as a launching point for those visiting the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest.

About Cairns Airport:

Cairns Airport lies between Mount Whitfield to the west and Trinity Bay to the east and is a 7 km drive from the Cairns central business district. It is the seventh busiest airport in Australia. The airport serves international, domestic and general aviation operators. It is also a base for the Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia and the search and rescue helicopters of the State Emergency Service. Flights are offered to major Australian cities and tourist destinations, regional communities in Far North Queensland, and a number of international destinations in the Asia-Pacific region.
