Bring your essentials
You’ll need to bring a valid driver’s licence and a debit or credit card for pre-authorisation at pick up to book a tradie van. If you’d like to include other drivers, they will also need to bring their own licences at pick-up. Then you can all share the driving load.
Age requirements:
You’re all set to hire at Redspot as long as you are over 21 and have at least a provisional driver’s licence.
Fuel policy:
Before you pick up your van, make sure you understand the fuel policy. We offer convenient options like pre-pay fuel or refuelling services. Alternatively, you can simply fill the tank yourself.
Load Size
Our vans offer a wide and easily accessible loading space. Be sure to consider how much cargo space you will need on each job, and if the van is capable of handling not just the height, but the weight of your cargo as well.
Rental cost
Costs are calculated based on your vehicle, renting period and additional fees for services such as one-way rentals or additional damage liability waiver. We should be able to give you a full overview of your costs with our handy booking tool.

Minimum rental period
At Redspot, our vehicles have a minimum rental period of 24 hours. While you can return your vehicle before this time, you will still be charged a daily rate. Just contact our friendly staff to discuss your hiring options.

How much does a tradie van hire cost?
The exact cost of hiring a tradie van may vary depending on several factors. These factors include your vehicle’s model, the length of your rental period, and your overall mileage.

Can Redspot vans move interstate?
Yes, depending on your locations and your plans. As long as the van you’ve hired is returned to your original branch, you’re free to head across states as you please. You can also use our one-way rental program to drop off your vehicle at a different branch, depending on availability:
Interstate one-way rentals:
- You can book one-way van hire between our East Coast branches (QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS), subject to vehicle availability.
Restricted state one-way rentals:
- Due to the remoteness of certain branches (Such as in NT, SA, WA), one-way van hire is only available between Redspot branches within the state/territory from which it is rented.

Who can hire a tradie van?
Any solo trader, corporate employee or other worker can hire a tradie van as long as they hold a valid driver’s license. Depending on your company’s agreement, you may also need to present a valid credit or debit card.
Do tradie vans have unlimited kms at Redspot?
While most standard hire cars come with unlimited kms, at Redspot, we do impose a 100km p/day limit on vans, trucks and utes to help us sustain the fleet. In remote locations such as Alice Springs or Darwin, we also have a 200km p/day limit to ensure our vehicles remain well-maintained and prepared for the unique demands of the Australian outback.

Can I rent a van with a normal licence?
At Redspot, you can absolutely rent a van with a normal licence. We allow any Class C licence holder to rent a truck or van with us.
How do I keep my item from moving while I’m driving?
We recommend using our moving accessories to securely wrap and package your belongings before loading. This helps protect your items during transit. Please ensure you use any ratchet straps, cargo nets, or buckle straps provided in the vehicle as well.
When loading, pack items tightly to reduce movement while driving, and position heavier items against the van’s walls for added stability.
What does GVM stand for?
GVM stands for Gross Vehicle Mass, and it refers to the maximum weight your vehicle is allowed to be when you have fully loaded it. At Redspot, our vans have the following GVM:
- 2 tonne commercial moving van (Toyota HiAce): Approximately 2,000kg
- 1.5 commercial moving van (Iveco Daily): Approximately 3,800kg
Is it more expensive to rent a van one way?
Whether a one-way van is more expensive or not will depend on the requested pick-up and drop-off locations and the availability of your vehicle, which may be more limited. Cost will also factor in relocating the van back to its initial location (this is also called a drop fee). Typically, the further you want to travel, the more a one-way rental can help you save on fuel and time that you’d otherwise spend heading back to your starting location.

Can more than one person drive a hired van?
Yes, you can absolutely use multiple drivers for your tradie van! Your colleagues are included for business rentals. Just be sure to have all drivers present with their licenses when you pick up your vehicle. Usual T&Cs apply.
Please note that an additional driver’s fee may apply – unless you book our All-Inclusive package.
What are the excess km charges?
With Redspot van hires, the first 100 km you drive is free every day. Any additional distance travelled may incur excess kilometre charges.
